New SOAP API methods will be available in 5.0!

Friday, November 30th, 2007

So far, we’ve added set_custom_field(), which allows you to create a new custom field (of any type) through the SOAP API. This method also gives you the option to automatically place the new field on the EditView and DetailView layouts.

Post-Thanksgiving Post

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Ah yes, the Monday following the long Thanksgiving weekend. I think a diet is called for. Well, it’s encouraging to see that people have been busy nonetheless. To date we’ve had 5000+ DLs of the Sugar 5.0 Release Candidate and more than 3500 hits of the on-demand Community Preview version. Consequently there has been a ton of valuable feedback that needs to make its way into the product.

In case you missed it Susie posted an update of the release schedule. We’re now targeting early December for 5.0 GA. Given that 5.0 is a landmark release for Sugar we want to take the time to get it RIGHT.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

After a very busy couple of weeks (with the Systems Integrators bootcamp as well as the launch of this developer website) we’re winding down our operations today in anticipation of a glorious two-day holiday. We’re based in the U.S., so we’ll all be scurrying off to see our friends and families, enjoying lovely holiday meals filled with turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, candied yams, and all those slightly unusual family recipes we make just once a year.

I’m going to be heading to a large family bash with my aunts, dad, and cousins, some of whom I haven’t seen in many years. I’m going to miss out on making my unusual family recipe (curried pearl onions… yum!) but I’m sure I’ll pick up a new recipe or two.

To our USA friends, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving! We’ll be back in action on Monday, a little plumper and a little more relaxed.

We want your feedback!

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We have set up an area of the Sugar Forums for you to post your comments and feedback about the site. We’re looking for suggestions on other links to content that we should include, as well as tutorial topics you’d like to see. Please post your comments here and we’ll address them.

One comment that ruchida has already made concerns the slowness of the site when you first hit the home page. We’re working on tuning the page to make it faster, and I’ve already noticed some improvement. We’ll keep fiddling with the settings (particularly the RSS feed timing, which seems to be one of the culprits) until it’s right. Thank you for your patience.

One year ago today …

Friday, November 16th, 2007

It was almost exactly one year ago when we launched our first Sugar Dev-User Group (SDUG) session, leading to Max Blackmer’s now famous example of an upgrade-safe Business Logic Hook and has since produced a wealth of content.

My how time flies.
