New Module Builder Tutorial Posted

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

We have posted a great step-by-step tutorial that walks you through the process of creating a new module using the Module Builder tool (which is part of the 5.0 release). This exercise was part of the System Integrators Boot Camp held a few weeks ago, and is a good exercise for anyone who needs to get up to speed on the new 5.0 Module Builder.

To find the tutorial, go to the Tutorials section of the Developer website and click on the Creating New Modules and Relationships link (located in the 5.0 area of the page).

We hope you find this tutorial useful! There are more to come…

5.0 Worth the Wait

Friday, December 14th, 2007

SugarCRM introduced the momentous Sugar 5.0 release yesterday. After a long development cycle, Sugar 5.0 is worth the wait: with do-it-yourself features like the Module Builder, non-technical users can build new modules from pre-defined templates or create a brand new module from scratch.

Sugar Module Builder allows companies to track information them without having to make costly customizations. With Module Builder, companies can extend their CRM systems to capture all important information to users and managers.

Looking ahead, SugarCRM envisions Sugar as more than just a CRM, but as a development platform. To build competitive advantage, a company needs a CRM system that will meet its exact requirements across marketing, sales and support. Sugar 5.0 CRM platform capabilities provide the ability to customize Sugar to match how a specific company does business.

New “Project of the Month” featured on SugarForge

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Hey developers, check out December’s Project of the Month, a great tool called KlipFolio from the folks at Serence in Ottowa, Canada. It demonstrates how you can use the SOAP APIs to develop a useful desktop tool.

The project is interesting from a development standpoint not only for the methods they used to create the tool, but for how they used SugarForge as a “test bed” to solicit community feedback on their product before taking it to a commercial audience. They intend to release the final product on SugarExchange in the near future.

You can read the interview here.
