Great post on ideas for new Sugar add-ons
01 Oct, 2008Posted By: Clint
I don’t like to add to the blogosphere echo chamber, but I came across this great post from a new SugarCRM user that’s worth looking at. Sean has been running Sugar for two months and has some great ideas for new add-ons to Sugar (Track Skype Calls, Auto merge all dupe emails, iCal feed and more) that would turbo charge Sugar for him. Any takers in the community?

I think before creating new plugins you should have a look at international support issues. SugarCRM will not be leading CRM if the basic problems for countries who’s primary language is not US/English are not properly addressed.
1.Extremely needed international unicode support for Cyrilic/Baltic characters as currently pdfing/importing/exporting capabilities are affected. So basically if you generate any report or print quote it shows broken characters which are unreadable.
2.Ability to change week start to Monday instead of Sunday.
3.Approval process incorporated. For example, some modules like campaigns, quotes, project should allow to create item but there must be authority who should approve this item. Most of field workers in marketing will be creating new campaigns, projects, etc without permission. Ye, you could restrict them but this means that only certain types of employees could create this items and again nobody can guarantee that the new item is approved.
These are very basic ones which should be considered seriously.

Clint, I just noticed the pingback from this- thanks for linking to my addon suggestions. I did one other writeup that might have some useful insights/observations for you here:

Bottomline: this is an _amazing_ piece of software and your dev team deserves huge praise – it’s rare that I like a piece of software the more I use it and Sugar is definitely in this category.
